A Chilly Spring Break in Vancouver

Most head to the warmer destinations for spring break, but we chase the deals! Traveling off-season will always save you money and with this trip we were able to use mostly miles and points! So, we embraced the Canadian weather and spent spring break in VANCOUVER! 🇨🇦

It’s taken me almost twenty years, but finally returned to show the kids this beautiful corner of British Colombia. Here are the highlights from our visit:

10 Mile Bike Ride Through Stanley Park

We explored Stanley Park’s natural West Coast rainforest with a 10+ mile bike ride. Despite the rain, it was probably our favorite activity of the week! Our hotel offered free bike rentals, but there are many companies to rent from.

Biking Stanley Park

Vancouver Aquarium

We’ve visited many aquariums over the years, but this one pleasantly surprised us. The Vancouver Aquarium rescues distressed marine animals and rehabilitates them for release back to the water. If their injuries are too severe, or they were orphaned too young to fend for themselves, then they remain at the Aquarium including these sea lions. Science World

A perfect place to visit on a rainy day is Science World. It’s full of entertaining and scientific displays and activities for all ages. (TIP: save money by booking attractions through this website.)

Riding the Water Taxis

Definitely felt like we were back in Scandinavia with the water taxis. It’s a fun way to see the city and avoid the rain.

Granville Island + Public Market

With all this biking, walking, and hiking, we needed sustenance and Granville Island Public Market was a fun spot for an afternoon. You can never go wrong with a local public market and they even had Poutine—a dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a hot brown gravy.

Totem Poles at Stanley Park

Stanley Park is more than just pretty views, it was once home to First Nations people. Each carved total pole has a specific meaning and are here for Indigenous communities to connect with their heritage.

The Forbidden Vancouver Evening Walking Tour

If you are looking for a unique experience, then take The Lost Souls of Gastown Walking Tour.  We stepped back in time to Vancouver’s earliest and most gruesome history and was a really fascinating way to learn the history of Vancouver.

Britannia Mine Museum

About an hour north of Vancouver is former copper mine (open 1904 to 1974). The Britannia Mine Museum did a fantastic job of preserving the history, entertaining us, and giving us a better understanding of mining.  (TIP: save money by booking attractions through this website.)

Lynn Canyon Hike + Suspension Bridge

Opting for a more local hike, we ventured to Lynn Canyon on Vancouver’s North Shore. Lynn Canyon is a verdant and temperate rainforest with several hiking trails—but the most impressive main attraction is the 160ft suspension bridge!

Hope this post has helped you plan your own getaway to Vancouver!
